Boxing vs MMA #1

boxing and MMA are two different sports. People who say one is better then the other piss me off, some of you diehard MMA fans that say Boxing sucks you are morons. Boxing is an art, MMA is more of a free for all street fight. Both require skills, and lots of them, to say MMA takes more skill is idiotic, boxers even though they only use 2 hands have to learn so many differnat techniques. Boxers also have to be in better shape then MMA fighters i feel, because you are on your feet the whole time, you cant lay on the other guy for 2 mintues to rest, you have to be punching the whole time, the ref breaks you ever time you hold eachother, and the only way out of a boxing match is to be knocked out or quit if things get bad. MMA can just allow themselves to get submitted easily and noone will ever know they quit.

I agree completly. MMA are just fighters that couldnt make it in Boxing. Boxing requires great skills in thinking under pressure, you must be able counter your opponents technique and have a strategy of your own.

MMA is more of a high skilled bar fight. It does take a lot of physical condition, but lacks any strategy.

On the entertainment level, most MMA fights end up with two fighters on the floor holding themselves for a long periods of time. They are those momemnts when they are crisp punches that brings excitement but they are not in the majority.

Boxing those have its share of boring fights, but the majority of there of the time the excitement is high. There is no huging each other for periods of 4 minutes but there is clear crisp punches that the audience can see.

You know honestly you Boxing/MMA die hards need to open you're eyes and realize that boxing and Mixed Martial Arts are two totally different sports and you should not compare the two. These sports should be able to coexist unless die hard fans like you(Boxing and MMA Die hards alike).

Honestly, I can tell you people do not train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or you would know and love the ground game which you call hugging. If you studied any bit of BJJ you would be more into the ground game of MMA and understand that STRATEGY does go into each move executed on the ground. You would be able to understand what each fighter is thinking and what his/here next move would/could be.

I am not trying to discredit boxing because some of what MMA has become is due to boxing and where boxing is at now. But please put credit where credit is due. MMA is a new evolved sport which is greatly increasing in popularity and you boxing fans are scared that boxing could possibly go under, which I do not hope it does, because i for one can watch both boxing and MMA and love each in its differences.

Saying MMA requires less skill than boxing is simply idiotic.

Boxers have a superiority complex, believing that nothing could have as much depth and as many nuances as boxing. All the component aspects of MMA, muay thai, wrestling, bjj are just as skillful as boxing. If you specialise in anything long enough you reach ridiculous levels of depth in terms of skill invovlved.

People basically detract from a lot of mma, including clinchfighting and grappling, mostly because they don't understand it. You can see this from people describing grappling as "hugging". Describing grappling as hugging is akin to describing chess as "moving little bits of plastic". Really shows how little some people know.

MMA has just as much strategy as any other sport. Fighters fight for points, consider whether they've won a round and adjust their fighting style accordingly.

Anyone saying MMA fighters are fighters who couldn't make it in boxing really knows nothing. Very very few MMA fighters have a background in boxing at all. Nearly all MMA fighters have a grappling background such as collegiate wrestling, BJJ or Judo. Sometimes you have fighters with muay thai or kickboxing backgrounds, as these fighters tend to adapt to MMA better than boxers.

MMA fighters are much better fighters than boxers. They can't box better than boxers but there really is no argument who the better fighters are.
